Life and Motorcycle Riding

Few weeks back, when I was heading to office I saw a sign board saying “Hey 2020, thanks for all the ME time”. I don’t remember the sponsor for that but it suddenly gushed positive thought in me. It is not just about an Advertisement stunt but a fact by all means. The year 2020 really gave us time to think about ourselves but in a harsh way though. Everyone had to face trouble in some way or the other because of Covid-19 and myself not an exception. With these things in mind, I didn’t get an opportunity to plan for a ride until some while ago when I suddenly decided to have a short crisp ride i.e. on 25th December 2020.

It was a short ride almost nearing Kurnool (City in Andhra Pradesh, India) and it really taught me a great lesson in life and I would like to take an opportunity to share it with every one of you there let it be riding enthusiasts or those who are to be. Coming to the day before the ride, it was a hectic day with different fuss which made my day chaotic. The next day I woke up, it came to me that only a motorcycle ride can set me and to my belief it really did. There was no particular destination I decided prior. I just took out my Dominar 400 and headed for highway as I concentrate more on ride than destination itself.

Jab tak hai jaan

When we are on motorcycle, it is not like, just sit on it, attain some predetermined speed, and finally reach destination. There are many things to it. We start with a fresh mind to ride, and head towards the tarmac. If you are someone who lives by the highway, it would be pretty easy, but if you are in the middle of the city it’s a bit cumbersome to actually get going and attain momentum. We would subject with road blocks, traffic jam, attain good speed all of sudden, and the cycle repeats.

Even on highway it occurred to me when I was zooming past with speed of 80 kmph, almost for 20 minutes and then the speed suddenly fell to 40kmph for like next 10 minutes due to road block. Then it occurred to me that, the same way, a person who is heading in life, all of a sudden start facing adversities. It was something really related and caught my attention. That is the point, I got a topic to meditate upon and I did.

However, unlike in motorcycle ride where we usually head to destination ignoring these things, in life, we tend to give up and pull ourselves back to our comfort zone. We can consider this analogy. When we are out on motorcycle we head to some place, which we call the DESTINATION. Just the same way as our goals in life let it be job change, higher education, starting a business, writing a book, and you name it. Now we follow a process to attain our goal and we say it a success when we reach it. This can be related to our en-route while we ride to reach our destination (Goal). Here is the catch, the tough thing. Like I mentioned above, we cannot reach the destination just like that. There will be a test to our mettle and to the mettle of our metal.

In order to reach our goal of life, we have to go through many adversities or road blocks. Let it be financial trouble, family pressure, societal pressure, and many more. These are same like road blocks, diversions, jams, physical tiring, and even rest to our compañero. Unlike in motorcycle ride, where we get ahead and reach to the place, we tend to give up in life. We start giving reasons to cover them up and avoid speaking altogether about it. The only difference is, ride last for few days or months. However our en-route to success in life can last up to years. We get exhausted with every sort of thing there is and finally give up. When we don’t give up in riding, why we have to give up in life? Here the principle remains the same, so is the riding and goals but what changes is our attitude towards it and the level of our comfort zone.

Everything is connected in life like I mentioned in my previous blogs. It’s just that we have to find a way to connect them and learn a lesson with that connection. Just like we don’t give up in a motorcycle ride, and to mind you, motorcycle ride is not an easy task, we should not throw in a towel. That is the reason why we emerge much stronger with every ride let it be small or big. Every en-route is a lesson in life, every path chosen is a teacher and everytime a destination is reached, it is the goal attained, a success of life. The same is to be applicable to life, never give up, attain goals and emerge victorious.

This is the simple lesson I learnt from my ride, with the connection I established with it. If it is even in the slightest way helped anyone who have read it, I consider myself a happy being that I have done my part to help through the power of writing.

Stay tuned for more…

  1. Brilliant Harsha! I love the connection you made and challenges we face on the way to reach our destination. Guess you managed to bring your mojo back after that short ride of yours. Cheers!!
